Hallway Before and After

15 Apr

Last time I left off I hadn’t shown any progress on my hallway.

Well I’ve painted it ‘Chocolate Froth’ with a steel blue stripe at head height. I didn’t like that blue at first, but with the art hanging I like it a bit more.

I moved my art around, finally hung up my Wilco concert poster, and framed my Standing at the Edge of the Water print from 20×200. That was an ordeal. I went to Michael’s to get a custom mat and never heard back from them to come pick it up when it was ready. I finally went to the store yesterday and it was sitting in the back with a mat that was cut incorrectly and a note saying that the frame I picked out would not work with the mat. Thanks for notifying me. Luckily, I talked to the manager and she was very friendly and gave me a discount on the new frame I picked out. That’s good customer service.

So, it’s not an amazing transformation, but it does brighten everything up, and I love looking at my happy little art gallery. I’m still thinking about getting a mirror custom made for the door at the end of the hallway. That will brighten it up even more.

What do you think? I just got this from 20×200.
It’s a little brash, but I like the colors.

Guest Bedroom Pinterest Challenge!

1 Sep

I’m about a month late to the Pinterest Challenge, but I thought I’d join in anyway, since I finally was inspired to do something.

What’s the Pinterest Challenge you ask? Oh it’s just the most exciting of exciting things to hit the blogosphere since the Pioneer Woman.  First, you pick a theme of something inspiring on Pinterest and then you get so inspired that you make your own thing.

So I love Pinterest, and I decided that my inspiration was paint chip decor. There is a blog post on the Blue Velvet Chair devoted to paint chip stuff, and 2301 Pinterest boards devoted to it (when I searched!), and now I have my very own piece of unique paint chip art that is hanging in my in-progress guest room. It matches the theme (which I can’t tell you about yet), and it matches the color scheme, so it is perfect. I was especially inspired by these images which kept the paint chips mostly intact:

Paint Chip Tags from Real Simple

Paint Chip Coasters from The Crafty CPA

Paint Chip Art from Young House Love

I like that in those images that you can identify that the crafter is still using paint chips, but renewing their use!

Creating the art was really easy. I sat down to catch up on some HGTV, cut the chips into rectangles, arranged the chips on a piece of cardstock until I loved the design, glued them down with a glue stick, stuck the posterboard into a frame I already had, and finally hung it on the wall with a nail. Easy!

If you haven’t, make sure you check out some of the other Pinterest Challenge projects on the Young House Love blog: http://www.younghouselove.com/2011/08/320-pins/

And, if you are not on Pinterest and need an invite, let me know! I have plenty to share.

What’s inspiring you?

Mood Board Monday: Mark Rothko

21 Aug

Rothko at the DeYoung via Mr Ush on Flickr

I spent the afternoon at the DeYoung Museum at their traveling Picasso exhibit which was fun. I am a big Picasso fan! I also took a few minutes to look around the permanent collections and saw this beautiful Mark Rothko piece. The colors are great, and I thought that I could make a mood board inspired by this Rothko.

Here goes:

The space is an open loft that needs to be used for work during the day, dinner at night, and living in on the weekend. Very versatile, yet glamorous and fun. (and colorful!) I didn’t hold back with a realistic budget– I just used what was pretty! My favorite piece may be the gorgeous round bookshelf, which would define a space, and the Celestial Coasters (which I may actually buy for my living room anyway).

Small Bedroom Gallery Wall

9 Mar OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I hung up these few pictures above my dresser in the bedroom a few weeks ago, since the wall was gaping bare. I think I made a nice little scene, with a framed poem, original piece of art (that’s the one that’s covered in glare…), and photo of me and my sweetie! The art and frames I had, so it was a nice ‘free to me’ update in the bedroom. Though it may not look like it, the top of my dresser got all cleaned up and organized. And while I like the fake ‘crystal’ lamp (from Bed Bath and Beyond), I have an awesome original 50′s real crystal lamp on the table beside my bed. Oh my I love that lamp (that you can see here. Yes, see how it sparkles?). So the one on my dresser may need to be replaced to not compete with the awesomeness.

What’s decorating your bedroom these days?

Stuff I’m Loving

26 Feb

Here are a few things that I’ve bookmarked and am I’m loving now:

Positive messages from CB2:

I want to wake up to YES every day

I’m loving yellow and gray, like in these few bedrooms:

From the show "Enough Already"

Yellow black and white room from Apartment Therapy

I’m liking bright antique  industrial touches, like this orange phone from Martha Stewart via The Happy Home Blog.

Orange phone!

Awesome Edison chandelier from Pottery Barn:

Edison Chandelier

And this totally girlie beautiful organized entryway, from now defunct blog, Room Remix:

Girlie Entry

So that’s what’s inspiring me right now. That and drum shades and all shades of gray. And succulents too.

Random. That’s what I got today. I’m off to help paint a friend’s new old house, and I’m hoping to get some good pictures with her!
